Do Chaplains in the military fight? Do they go out into battle, if not where are they stationed once deployed? At base? Or do they travel with the soldiers? Do Chaplains fight?

chaplains undergo the selection course for every force and is just 1 of the specialisations....of course they fight and they do travel with the soldiers everywhere

Well, if you were a Chaplain, and your base was the victim of a surprise attack and the enemy was closing on your position, would you attack? I sure as hell would.

Chaplains don't "fight" in the sense that they don't carry weapons and actively engage in combat. However, they go where the troops are, whether it be on the frontlines, in the hospital, or back at camp. Basically the only protection you have are the fellow soldiers around you and the good book.

Chaplains are issued the same way as ordinary soldiers, unibag, rifle, boots and other odds and ends. They don't normally fight, but if it came down to it, they might have to. Otherwise they stay close to the troops to calm their nerves. Sometimes, they are asked to be a counsellor for any troubled soldier.

Not really. It's kind of like having Gabriel walk around the desert spreading the word of God while packing an automatic machine gun and a Bible in the other.
