Hi !! My name is Chelsea and I just have a few questions ..... My boyfriend left for bootcamp June 8th and the ARMY thing is all new to me ! At boot camp ..... when should I start expecting mail from my boyfriend and do the officers read it ? What is the schedule of bootcamp (like what do they do on certain days ?) I have read in some posts that girls have said their guys have really changed when they come home (in a bad way) DOES THIS USUALLY HAPPEN ? Lastly, my boyfriend told me before he left that he wasnt going to be an "active" duty person ... even though he isn't does he have a chance of being "active" if needed ?? Hope someone can answer these for me ! Thanks !

You should be expecting mail a couple of weeks after he leaves. While new recruits are in training they are constantly encouraged to write home and let others know that they're okay. It's stricly voluntary though, he only has to write if he wants to. He has the opportunity to purchase stamps, paper, envelopes and at one point he'll even be allowed to make short phone calls every so often. But you have to understand that he is in training, writing letters might not be a priority to him. And nobody reads his mail before getting to him, don't worry. However, if the letter is suspected to contain contraband (food, cigarettes, weapons, etc.) he will be told to open it in front of the Drill Sergeant who will then confiscate any prohibited items. You are however encouraged to send him stamps, greeting cards, and calling cards.

As for the whole changing once he returns it's quite possible. You go through a difficult time in training and this sometimes changes how you act and behave. It doesn't happen that often though. I knew a bunch of guys that were excited as hell to return home to their girlfriends.

And for your last question. Yes, it's quite possible that he'll get activated at one point and have to deploy. The Army is stretched thin right now and needs the National Guard and Reserves to pull up some of the slack too. Afterall, it is the job they trained and get paid for.
