Hi , my boyfriend just left for bootcamp in South Carolina... I am a little confused on what he told me before he left ... he said that he was going to bootcamp and then coming home for a week and then going back somewhere and then should be back in october ... he also said that he was not going to be in "active duty" and he wasnt going to fight like the usual people do ... I just now found out today on one of my posts he might be a reserve or in guard .... since he said he wasnt going to be active ... is this true? Exactly what do these do ? Do they get called to duty alot ? Will he be able to come home and work? All this is new to me and im sooo confused I hope someone can answer my questions and let me know more about this stuff! Thanks !

Ideally he will be able to come home and work if he is in the reserves or guard. I say Ideally because with the lack of enlistments and re-enlistments right now, many reserves and guards are being called up to serve a period of full time work. I have a cousin and friend who are in the guards and are being sent to Iraq for 18 months

Some people don't go though...ask your boyfriend what is going on...No offense, but how are you not informed on what he is joining and what he will be doing? You would think that these would be questions you would ask when he was around.

National Guard members DO GO TO IRAQ. My husband is in his 12 month of his deployment in Iraq. Remember there is always a possibility of deployment and you need to be some what ready for that possibility because it can throw you for a loop if you are not ready. You need to get more info on his plans. his MOS? what base he will be going to? and dont EVER count on a leave date they always change with the military.
