I am hearing mixed stories about this so called bonus my husband will be getting for joining. We have always heard that its the same amount but we keep hearing he gets it on different dates.....SOooooo my question is....Does he get a portion of it after he graduates boot camp? or is that after tech school? I heard one thing from his recruiter and he is hearing another in boot camp sooo I'm massively confused by this and if ne one has an idea let me know pretty pls :D
thanks bunches

Depending on how large the bonus is .. he will most likely get it in two installments. Half after he finishes AIT/OSUT .. the rest a year later.

A soldier owed an enlistment bonus won't get it until after he/she graduates AIT. After inprocessing at their first unit they will get the bonus 30 days later. However, they don't get it all up front. Taxes are taken out first then the remainder is split in half. He/she will get the first half 30 days after inprocessing at the first unit. The other half will be divided up according to the length of enlistment, then every year on their anniversary joining date they will get an installment. For example:

John Smith signs up to become an 11B for four years and gets a $15,000 enlistment bonus.
Lets just say after takes he will get approximately $12,000.
Divide $12,000 by two and you get $6,000. That's how much he will get once at his first unit.
Take the remaining $6,000 and divide it by four (the number of years in his enlistment) and you get $1,500.
He will get $1,500 every year on his anniversary join date. So say that his entrance date is January 1. Every January he will get $1,500 deposited to his account.

Remind your husband to keep and take ALL of his enlistment and bonus documents to his first unit. He will need it during his inprocessing. And believe it or not but a soldier has to prove to the Army that he/she is owned an enlistment bonus. That's why it's critical he keeps this paperwork.
