Angry Who is Entitled to BAH??

I was an Army Reservist who spent over 2 years on active duty at Fort Lewis before being medically discharged in March 05. Just recently I got a bill from DFAS for over 8 grand. When I called to ask about it, I was told that my unit had informed them that during the two years I was activated and receiving BAH, I was not entitled to it, and they want all that money back. Every single person in my reserve unit was receiving BAH. I don't understand how after being out of the military for 5 months they can decide to take my BAH back with interest.

How do I know if I was really entitled to BAH? And if my unit approved my BAH originally, can they turn around and make me pay it all back?

Thanks!

start writing to senators and congressmen. Also try writing letters to high ranking Generals. Don't pay the money and be as loud as you can to as many powerful people as you can. Be sure to be extra respectful as they did not cause this situation but may be able to resolve it.
Not making any promises but that would be your best bet.

Include in your letters how little you got paid, how little you may or may not currently make and how much of a negative effect this will have on your life financially and how ridiculous the whole ordeal is. Reach out to them for help as an American citizen who was only trying to serve his country. Also try to make it seem as though you were the best soldier imaginable who did great things in service of his country. If you ever went to Iraq be sure to include that.

Hope this helps
