Question Think i'm ready but not 100%.....

hey everyone - this is my first post here and i've been soaking up ALOT of info......but i have a question....i know it's impossible for someone to tell you if you're ready to go into the army but i've been thinking about it since i was a kid......my dad spent 10 1/2 yrs. in the active duty army and i guess it kinda wore off on me......but anyways.....this is directed more towards anyone on active duty.......i'm 18 and about 95% sure i want to go in the army (already came to realize that i'll probably go to iraq) - but there's just something that feels like it's holding me back but i don't know what it is...did any of you have this type of feeling before you joined??.....also my reasons for joining are: college money, job of choice that i'll like (i hate my job now and can't find any others where i live), i would like to travel a little bit, good pay, all the benefits (healthcare etc.), the vehicle i want (03 explorer here i come lol), and most importantly the PRIDE of being able to say "I'M AN AMERICAN SOLDIER" - that's my biggest reason........VERY patriotic person......but i was wondering if the things i've stated here sound like the same reasons others have joined.....i just want to make sure i'm joining for the right reasons.....also - i go to MEPS in 2 weeks to see if there's a job i want - don't worry, i've been researching everything i possibly could for the past year and i know the recruiters here very well and they won't screw me over ....but thanks in advance for any input and God Bless all our Troops

If its mostly for the college money i'd rather see u get a desk job...

that said, theres nothing else u can do than try it out... finish Basic and ask urself the same question! do i wanna be an american soldier, and that u're AWARE of that it might cost u ur life...

I leave for basic in 3 days. Some of the reasons that you mentioned are what made me choose the army over other branches. Not being sure is something i went through, at first. But I'm sure its what I want to do so I went ahead with it, that doesn't mean i'm not nervous as hell as I sit here and think about what awaits me. If it's what you want to do, then go for it. There always a fear of the unknown. Good luck.

It's just cold feet man, It's the best thing you can do for yourself. My first enlistment I got the cold feet during the ASVAB and just started coloring dots and still passed( I don't recommend this), but I don't regreat a minute of it. Everyone gets second thoughts if you didn't you would be a dope. Your an adult you know what your doing. GO for it. At least you can say you did something as opposed to all the graduating class who are still hanging in the same bars and working the same crappy jobs.
