I'm in the reserves DTP, can i switch to the National Gaurd so that i can get the mos that i want, 11b? I haven't shipped to do any trainning or anything, i don't ship till the end of May. Any information would be helpful.

If you are in the DEP program, you still have an opportunity to change your contract. Tell your recruiter you want 11B and you can't leave until you get it.

It is possible to switch to NG, but very painful and it may leave a black stain on you.

I would go for changing your active duty MOS.

i can't change to that MOS with the reserves. I think its because there isn't any reserve infantry units were i am. How bad of a "black stain" are you talking about?

Oh, well if you are already signing reserves..go and talk to your recruiter or call your local National Guard unit and find out if they would be willing to accept you.

A lot of people have had their contracts switched from Reserves to NG, just a matter of getting someone to do the paper work for you.

I was originally told that as a reservist, I would not be able to attend an infantry school. I just refused to accept no as an answer and was fortunate enough to have a sgt mjr who worked out a deal for me to attend a NG infantry school and successfully petitioned the AR to accept the mosq. Speak to your unit rep and have them contact the NG for available slots in their infantry schools. It will work if you are persistent.
