Default Muslims offended by cartoon

Muslims to march in London to protest cartoon
(Filed: 03/02/2006)

Muslims are to gather outside the Danish embassy in London today to protest the publication of cartoons depicting the prophet Mohammed, which have sparked worldwide demonstrations.

The cartoons first appeared in Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten and included images of Mohammed wearing a turban shaped like a bomb.
They provoked outrage across the Muslim community as Islamic tradition bars any depiction of the prophet to prevent idolatry.
This morning protesters in Jakarta, Indonesia, attacked the lobby of a building housing the Danish embassy.
Between 200 to 300 demonstrators from the Islamic Defender's Front smashed lamps and threw rotten eggs and tomatoes at the Danish embassy symbol and tore up a Danish national flag.
Demonstrators in London will gather at Regent's Park mosque at 2pm after Friday prayers and march to the Danish embassy in Sloane Street.
Abu Musa, from the At-Tawheed Muslim network, said he expected several hundred Muslims to take part.
"At the end of the day, Muslims need to make their opinions known and not keep silent about the matter," he said.
"The minimum we can do is to raise our voice to highlight the issue - it is not acceptable. We are hurt about what they have done."
Mr Musa said he was pleased that British newspapers had decided not to publish the cartoons, which he said were deeply offensive.
Inayat Bunglawala, from the Muslim Council of Britain, said: "We regard the cartoons as gratuitous. Of course, no one disputes the freedom of speech in Europe.
"Newspapers and broadcasters have the right to publish these offensive cartoons. The question is clearly whether they are exercising good judgment if they do so.
"They know the deep hurt that will be felt by Muslims."

All over a Cartoon !!!!!!! As a religion I find their priorities skewed beyond belief!
How many marches were made after 9/11 by Muslims ?

as i have said before, and i'm saying again aparently,
it is a bad call to melt religion in government as a dominant force.

Finland has warned her emplyees in middle-east since we share
many facilities with the nordic contries. thus we share the threat.
nevertheless we don't like the nature of those pictures aither.
they aren't even funny. mostly provocative. and thats kinda bad humor
if you ask me. but freedom of speech in our culture means freedom of speech.

and the outbrake of anger in the muslim groups is a demonstration of the
amount of frustration and anger they bear inside. how ever.. it would
be a good time for them to realize what they are really doing by grabbing
AK-47 and going to lay seige to the EU's embassy buildings.

maybe they could just burn the UN flag.. less time.. easier job?

makes you think doesn't it?

the all cases when some imaam has ordered all muslims to kill someone
with different opinions from islam or the culture related..
the murder of Theo van Gogh for exaple..
this is the hate breeded by extreme commitment to factions of (any) religion which can't
take any critisism whatsoever.
its more righteus to blow up innocent civilians than draw some "bad" pictures?

sad.

I believe all religions deserve basic respect and I understand that Islam feels a certain threat from the 'Western' world (not unjustified), but many Muslims lack tolerance which we in the West base our liberal democracies on. I do not believe our press should censor itself at the behest of intolerant people.

no.. they lack sources of information. information can be false or it can be true.
but when there are enough sources, you can form empathy even for your old opponent..

the problem with some people in middle-east is that they are in hell.
and they want to get out by anymeans possible.
one of thease ways is offered by the extremists.

Apart from the cartoon declaring no virgins left in heaven , the cartoons just weren't funny .A bit of mockery never did anybody any harm though . Maybe somebody should remake The life of Brian ,Change the script slightly and rename it The life of MO ! ........WW3 ?

Our tolerant free speaking democracies are under threat from all directions at the moment .
How does the saying go . "I may not agree with what you have to say .But I will fight for your right to say it !" ...Well quite frankly that doesn't seem to be how our Asian friends see it .

I find it a dangerous situation when a politician and a film maker are murdered for tackling problems that we are all aware of ,but decide to ignore because its not PC or we just don't want to offend .

Well I'm bloody well offended that we can't speak our minds and address this problem without being accused of being racist . I'm going to the super market now . I think I'll get a couple packs of DANISH BACON !

Danish embassy torched in Syria

Syrians have set fire to the Danish embassy in Damascus to protest against the publication of newspaper cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.
The caricatures have sparked outrage in Muslim countries across the world, following their publication in a Danish newspaper in September.

The cartoons have since been published by several other European media.

Some of the cartoons depict Muhammad as a terrorist. Any images of the Prophet are banned under Islamic tradition.

The cartoons have prompted diplomatic sanctions, boycotts and death threats in some Arab nations, while some newspapers have defended publication of the images in the name of press freedom.

In Iran, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said his government should consider abandoning commercial and trade deals with countries where the cartoons have appeared.

The Roman Catholic church has also criticised the cartoons.

The right to freedom of expression did not imply the right to offend religious beliefs, the Vatican said in a statement.

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has called for calm and urged Muslims to accept an apology from the Danish paper that first published the cartoons.

'God is great'

Syrians have been staging sit-ins outside the Danish embassy since the row intensified earlier this week, when Damascus recalled its ambassador.

On Saturday, hundreds hurled stones and stormed the site.

To chants of "God is Great," they set fire to the Danish flag and replaced it with another reading "No God but Allah, Muhammad is His Prophet", according to Reuters news agency.

The embassy was closed, but it was not immediately clear if it was empty when the protests started, Reuters said.

These heathens need kicking out of western society . They don't belong here . Time to stop being so *****ing polite

DK is a freedom loving country so now we protest by making peaceful demonstrations :/ but damn! its sad that the Quran burning protest that should be held yesterday didn't really work... instead of angry people burning Qurans it was frustrated people calling for peace... :S
