Infantry question
i want to join the army and go infantry but there is one prob. what are my chances when i get deployed that i will just sit at base instead of being on the front line? my army buddies say it all depends on the unit but is there anything i can do about it? i want to serve my country but hate the thought of going through all that training and not be on the front line. this is the whole reason i want to go infantry, for the adventure and to serve proudly doing my job. any feedback on this topic would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Go Abn INF. Whether you deploy or not, it's good training, hard work and a lot of fun. Deployments will depend on the unit and what's going on in the world.
I started out as an 11B, and while I have moved on to bigger and better things within the military, I will always remember those days fondly.

Hey if you want alittle bit more fun and you have not signed yet. Get the 11xOpt Contract. That is infanty with airborne and a shot a rip ( Ranger indoctrine Program) where you get a shot to get into a ranger betalion.

well that is what i wanted to do in the first place but i want to get my degree in the army and my time will already be streched thin going in as infantry. i really wish you didnt have to sign as 11x because i want to go direct infantry (11b) not indirect (11c). anyway, after basics and infantry training if i want to go rangers and go through RIP what is the training after that? i know RIP is like 3 months long but if you pass that do you go into a ranger battalion of do you have more training? i definently want to go combat arms and i am mainly going the army to serve my contry and go to Iraq.of course i dont know what to expect so anyone that has gone this route and done a tour please give me your insight on this topic. thanks

The Contract is 11X Opt. 40. RIP is Ranger Indoctrination Program. "Ranger" is always capitalized. "Betalion" is spelled battalion.

I can tell you right now, unless you have an 11X Opt. 40 contract you aren't going to RIP. Even with said contract, you do not attend RIP until after Airborne School. RIP is almost 4 weeks long, not 3 months.
If you pass RIP you will be assigned to one of the three Ranger battalions. Life will not be kind to you for the first while, you will be a cherry (new guy) and you will not have attended Ranger school. You'll have to prove yourself every day, day in.. day out.
Life in the 75th is hard and fast paced, you'll learn a lot but you'll work a lot as well. After about 8 months to a year (depending on deployments) you'll have the opportunity to attend Ranger school. Failing is not an option, so once you graduate Ranger school and come back with your tab, you'll start to notice you are given more leadership responsibilities.
You have to be willing to give 110% every day in the Regt. If not, they will boot you out.

ok that helps but how long is ranger school? also, what do you have to do and why do you have to wait so long to go into ranger school?thanks for any help.
P.S. while im at it, i have one more question. do you think that i will have time to work on my degree through dantes in my job (infantry)? i have heard mixed replies about this so anyone that has gone through combat arms mos that has an opinion would be appreciated.

Why would the 75th Ranger Regt. send you to Ranger school if you haven't proved you can hack it as a Ranger? Going to Ranger school doesn't make you a Ranger, it is difficult but it is a leadership school, focusing on small unit tactics, it is a rite of passage for a Ranger. Keeping up with the daily life as a Ranger in the 75th is the true challenge. Ranger school is 61 days with about 19 hours of training each day.
As for college, doubtful in the 75th. If you're not deployed or TDY, you're training. Finding time for school will be difficult.
