Calling card for use in Iraq?
I have a friend who's son is heading to Iraq in March. He has asked my help in finding pre-paid calling cards for his son to use to call back home to America. I'm hopeful that others reading here have experience with this. Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks for your time,
Chuck

Still not available in Irak
There is no card available to be used from Irak to the USA.
They are not set up on 1800 #`s yet, may be in future.
But LapTop will be a good gift to stay intouch,
Mother going through the same thing.
Good luck and wich him a safe return home.
Bless your heart.

calling cards...
I was in Iraq in 2004, and there are several issues with calling cards. AT&T has phones over there that you can make collect calls from, or there are PX's over there where soldiers can buy AT&T calling cards to use on the AT&T phones. If somebody stateside wants to send calling cards to the soldier, then it's best to sent AT&T since that is what most of the phones are with, and you can only use those cards. The biggest issue I ran into is that the cards may have 300 minutes, but that means if you are calling within the states, not internationally. A 300 minute card might get you about 100 minutes of talk time from Iraq since it is an international phone call.
If nothing else, then please don't be too cheap to let your loved one call collect. I can speak from experience, you never know when or if you'll get another chance to tell them you love them. It's war, and I've seen several friends who didn't make it back. Not to scare everybody, but I've been there, and done that, and don't want people to take it for granted that they can put off to tomorrow saying hi to friends and family.

calltalknow.com cheaper than AT&T
Voip calling cards are much more cheaper. I've used calling cards from www.calltalknow.com and they work just ok. To call from US to Iraq is a bargain. Just check it out.

Calling from US to Afghanistan
Hello everybody!
I have my brother in Afghanistan with our troops. My problem is to make calls from where i live, San Diego, CA, to Afghanistan to keep in touch with Jim. I found this forum and it helped me a lot meaning that i cut out from my expenses with the phone bill. Sprint and AT&T cave pretty expensive deals but i had no choice and used them. But as i told you i found this topic and bought the Hello Afghanistan card from www.calltalknow.com and i have more than an hour for 20$. Although i'm using it only for couple of days the credit looks ok (you know that some have a lot of fees for meintanance etc) and the quality pretty good. In one word i'm pleased.
God bless America!

For all of you who are trying to find a simple way to call home...
I found your website while trying to find a cheap and easy way to call back home to the Ukraine.
I am glad I have found it. Here is a friendly advise: The site is called www.connect2phonecard.com, it's cheap and easy to use. It's also good to call to Iraq. Try it and tell me what you think.
Thanks.
Mihaela.

many of you are missing the point...the cards are to be used to call the US FROM IRAQ...not the other way around.
