Question before shipping out.
I am shipping out in a few months for basic training, and after reading the "What to Bring" list, I have a question. In regards to the white undergarments: boxers or briefs?

HELLO FART!!... Great Forum Name!!!...
My advice to you is to bring cotton boxers..... you DONT WANT TO GET JOCK ROT!!!.. (Jock Rot is the friction burns that you get in between your legs when runing in fatigues or combats..)... IT HURTS LIKE HELL. Good thing for it is vaseline, so bring some.. As for socks, dunno if you get the crappy wool ones, but we used to, they were hell on feet. I reccomend cotton innersock or cotton gortex soccette if you want to spend some money. Also, put metholated spirit on your feet every night for a week before camp, and use it during camp (dont let instructors see it). It hardens the feet, and helps prevent blistering and sores on feet that happen in leather boots. Also, vaseline on the inside in small amount around the INSIDE of the heel and the INSIDE of the boot creases will help break them in. I could go on all night, but I hope that little bit helps. PS. Bring plasters for your nipples to prevent nipple burn (nipples get friction burn when chaffing against kanvas shirts, etc) when running in combats with kit.... thats a killer too.

Take briefs, boxers tend to bunch up when you're doing grass drills because someone pissed off the drill sergeant. Take sheepskin pads to put on blister areas on the feet. They make you dump your bags when you arrive, so you really can't hide anything and you'll have to toss stuff you shouldn't have. I had cologne and vaseline when I showed up and the drill sergeant called me a *** and tossed them, so don't spend too much on that stuff, you never know if they'll let you keep it.

You dont get a "personal Space" locker section, where you keep personal effects?? Its about the size of a cigar box, and the only place where its off limits to pillaging and wrecking by Instructors in training. Had vaseline on me and never got caught. Never thought about plasters, that came later with experience. Different training regime lad, but if you do alot of running like I did, be careful of jock rot. The cotton boxers with a slight leg on them were the saving grace for me (along with vas of course). Anyway, good luck with that!

Bring boxers or briefs, your choice, they issue you 7 brown briefs, or they did when I was in. they also give you 7 thick black boot socks, 7 brown shirts, 2 sets of PT uniforms, and they make you buy spandex shorts if there are females training with you.

After day 3 at reception you will not have to worry about what underwear to wear. They will issue you briefs and that is what you are required to wear. If I were to do it over I would take 1 pr. breeches, 2 t-shirts, toothbrush and paste , bar soap , two towels, deodorant, 3 pr. socks and underwear, paper and 2 pens, and shower shoes. Thats it. They will make you buy the things you need. Good luck and God Bless!
