Default Hard to switch to Active Duty?

Hi! My husband has been guard for about 6 years-did ROTC and is currently at Benning completing IOBC. We would like to go Active but aren't sure how that works...would he have to get depolyed first? Would he simply have to get approval from his Company Commander or just meet with a recruiter??? As you can probably tell, I'm new to the Army life and any ideas you can provide would be graciously welcomed. Thanks! Dawn
