Shellshock WW1
http://www.firstworldwar.com/atoz/shellshock.htm
As we all know, WW1 was an artillery war, and Shell shock (now covered under PTSD) was the injuiry that occured.... I was watching an programme for Armistice Day that covered it, and was amazed at the complete burnout of the central nervious system... From the day, chaps filmed with uncontrollable and voilent twitching, not able to look after themselves.... From the battlefield of the Somme, the last poor soul to reach a home suffering from bad shellshock died only 3 years ago.... I couldnt find the footage on the net, but theres a conceise article on it in the above link.... Allot was rightly made of PTSD in the Vietnam war for US GIs... these poor souls in WW1 were often shot for cowardice, where officers were confusing mental breakdown for cowardice.... The concussion waves from HE rounds were blamed by physicans at the time, but its now known as a physological injury, not a neurological one..... Fact is that the nervous system was so charged in constant death like situations that it burned itsself out and could not regaluate itself cos of the trauma of consistant Artillery... Hats off to the lot of them, they had it rough....

We Indians fought the wars I & II alongside you shoulder to shoulder. I still have my dad a veteran Royal Indian Navy man 83+, ear drum blown away and the thigh sliced by a shrapnel.
I'm proud of what he did for the Allied cause. Any veterans reading this, I'm proud of you too.
India is always with you.
