Default special forces

my career goal for the army is to be a Special Forces Weapon's Sergeant (18B).......i've been wanting to do it for a long time and i really feel i have the drive because i want to do it so bad. but im not ready physically and i was wondering what could be a good daily workout routine to get me ready for it. if i could get some input from experienced soldiers that would be great.

Well im not a soldier yet but im going for it and for SF too, but we need more info of how are you doing on physical activities?, so i recommend you to make push ups daily, to walk daily 1 hour and then after 2 weeks of walking start running for 20 min and then walk and then run more time, then go to a gym to make your muscles stronger, prepare mentally, and try to make your best you in every aspect in your life.

well six miles is great rangers do 5 miles, but the thing is the time you need to run long distances and fast, i would recommend start walking sometime and then start to run. you should increase your body stamina and strengh and keep a good diet or eat in a healthy way.

You can always enlist, go for 11B, and work towards your goal while being an Infantryman. I don't think you could do anything better to get you into the physical shape needed for 18B than that.

Getting a perfect score on the PT test isn't hard, in fact, it is damn right easy once you're in shape.

Get the book "How to Prepare for SF Selection" by Maj. Joe Martin. He's the real deal and has compiled advice and statistics together to make for good workouts that will build you up to the level you need to be.

I don't like the 18X program, and rarely do I recommend anyone enlist under it. It's better to come to SF with some time under your belt. Your chances of washing out in the pipeline are less as well. However, how you choose to apply for SF is up to you .. just be prepared for a very difficult process.

Tacky, any reason why direct entry was allowed.... I know guys who did Irish SF selection course and passed every test with 2yrs approx regular experience, and were returned to unit cos they were not experienced enough....

Direct entry is nothing new to SF .. we had it back in the 60s early 70s. The reason for bringing it back now was to a) get more bodies into selection, therefore increasing the amount of SF potentials to choose and b) help the infantry by taking the massive amount of washouts. A lot of the 18Xers (esp. the originals) have gone on to do very well on their respective teams, but not without extra hurdles. Maturity and experience are two things that are a must to survive in SF and you rarely find that in an 18/19 year old. Now that the age is higher, we are fairing a bit better ... but there's still some issues. Many of these guys that can make it through the training find that they can't handle/cut it on a team so are DX'd back to big Army with no long tab to show for their completed training.

I hear what your saying alright, and if the checks and balances work then cool... Theres no substitute for a thinking soldier, and if Iwas to do it again, Id have have 80% of the guys in my unit around me... good thinking soldiers, under pressure were calm, rational decisions were never a problem to them.... I managed to avoid the other 20% operationally...
