Please click on the above link, go to "Army Standards Page" on enlistement and click on the hyperlink... go to Page 4 of the Adobe file and look at Section 6, Sub Section B, which deals with your question. They do not allow applicants with dependants into the Military under 18yrs old. You may apply for a waiver to the department thats responsible for management of the Army as per this clause. Navy and Marine Corps are not bound by this statute according to it, but have similiar "Policies". You seemingly have a longer road to travel to have a shot at enlistment.. Good luck to you on it!..

Got someone to marry? Just kidding...but that would eliminate the need for a family care plan and make you eligible...as well as bringing in more benefits...still...good luck!
FYI: I enlisted with three kids, but I was married.

Ok now so if I have a 4 yr old little girl and I wrote a family care plan for my mother to have temporary custody of my daughter while I am in boot camp and AIT can that be possible or do I actually have to go to court to get paperwork to give to my recruiter. I was just asking because it will be a easier thing for me to do instead of waiting for a court date.

You should be able to get by with a power-of-attorney. The Army just wants to know that WHEN (not 'if') you deploy, they will not have to send you home early or have you be a liability due to family issues, etc. This is an area your recruiter probably knows best about.

Smile kids?

Thanks for that response that really helped me out. I have my power of attorney all ready to go. Actually I am going up to MEPS later on today. Would you happen to know when you can actually get your child back. I am thinking right after AIT but I am not sure. As in BAH funds how does that work does the Army send the funds to the caregiver of your child or do you have to send the funds to them. Another question that I have is when do you start getting your check? Is it when you get to bootcamp or is it when you get sworn in to leave for training? My last question is ok I was in the AFJROTC program in highschool for 4 years and completed 1 yr and a half for medical technical school? What will my rank be going in enlisted? Hopefully anyone can help me out with these questions that I have. Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated.

did you complete the medical school, or just do a year and half. i think you only get credit for it if you completed it. you will start getting paid 2-4 weeks after you are in basic training. you can either get the checks your self and send money home, or open a bank account your mother has access to and have your checks direct deposited into it. my husband had his check deposited into my savings account and i sent him money when he needed it. the army will issue you a money card when you get there and take you to the PX to buy the items you must have. i think it was like $500. they will take this out of your check. other then that you wont needed a hole lot of money. i sent my husbnad maybe $50-$100 every 3-4 weeks. all you BAH and family seperation pay is in your paycheck. you can even have it split into a couple bank if want. if its a checking, i think you can take your debit card and use that when you need it. just remeber to let you mom know what you use so she can write it down.

when you graduate ait and go to your base, you must first apply for a house. waiting list can be weeks to months long. i know there are things that can get you higher on the list, but i dont know if being a single mom is one.

make sure you let your daughters doctor know you are leaving and your mom will be taking care of her and bringing her to the doctor. that may save her some time if she realy needs to get her in. same thing for any schooling you daughter may be going into.

good luck!

Thanks KMullins for responding back to me. Yes I did complete both of my medical technical schools excluding 1 that I didn't attend my externship but actually finished the class part. Both of them together were 16 months. Oh ok so that 2-4 weeks isn't bad. I am going to actually get my check and send a certain amount home every month for my daughter, and also my mother. So I get the money card when I get to bootcamp or before. Wow $500 is way more than enough for me lol. As long as I don't see it then I'll be alright. Oh so basically the Army is making it easier to disburse funds to their soldiers. So if I don't have an account with a bank does the Army set you up to get an account how does that work. Or do they just give you a card. Oh ok so after AIT and go to my base I will be still living in the military quarters right. Well, my mother has taken her to the doctor when I couldn't make it do I still need to tell her doctors office that my mother will be bringing her and tell them what my situation is. I will probably be back before my daughter goes to Pre-K thanks tho. How is your day going if you don't mind me asking.

my day is fine thanks and your?

you do not need a bank account if you dont want one. the card will be a army card which will take the money directly out of your paycheck. you will get this when you go to basic, then they will take you straight to the PX and have you buy all the stuff you need for basic. before you leave they will give you a list of stuff to take with you to basic, undies, shirts, shoes, etc. all of this stuff you will just use while you are waiting to be placed in your basic training unit. this can take a couple of weeks. you will use most of that card the first time they take you to the PX. my husband said they made him buy all new stuff and he had about 20 bucks left when he was done. you will not need much money afterwards. you have almost no free time, and the only stuff you will be buying is extra deoderant and things like that.

if your mom has already taken her to the doctor, you may be fine with that. i think i would still however talk to her doctor and make sure there are no extra papers you need to sign for any emergenicies. truly, you never know when a broken bone is going to happen. i have 3 kids, no broken bones yet, but plenty of stitches. lol.

when you go to your base, you will still be in army quarters. you will have to go put your name down for a house. the waiting list differs from place to place. when you are at ait, you will be told where you will be stationed at. tell you mom and she could look it up and possibly find out. when you get a home, the army will go pack up your daugter and youre things and bring them to you.

good luck you and your family
