Default I don't know what to do.

I am 19, A High School Dropout, And I really dont want to be Flipping Burgers at age 50....The thought of joining the Military has crossed my mind time and time again, But I can't Decide Which branch. Army or Marines. I would rather not deal with the Recruiter BS untill I've reached a decision. That's where I need the help. Im pretty sure I could make it through either of the two's Basic Training, And I would very much like to be a "Grunt". I could probably find this out on my own, but im lazy, LOL. What's the pay for Army and Marines with an Infantryman MOS with Two years Active Duty; Six years reserve and Four years Active Duty; Four years reserve and all those extra goodies.

OK, theres two links to start you off on your information search... however, dont make the mistake thinking that that Army is a place for slackers... its not.. you gotta be committed to being a soldier, and you gota have the right stuff for the job... training will filter out the weenies and test the men of right calibre who will pass out as a trained soldiers... be under no illusion on that front....

As for being Lazy, if you really wanna be a soldier or "grunt" as you put it, you gotta loose the Lazy attitude, and replace it with motivation and committment to the job, and your fellow soldiers..... others including myself did it, but you have to reach deep for the strength to make it happen... have a look at the links above, and let me know if you have questions... Bear in mind, Im ExIrish Army so I might not have all the answers, but where I cant answer, others like Tacky and Nightflyer can....

I really appriciate those sites you gave me. They've answered lots of questions i had in mind. I would like you to know that i am not looking for any easy way out. I would join the Marines because of the Training Straight up, But ive heard a few things. Especially from my brother. He was in the Marines and was all hardcore about it at first. Then he was shipped off to Iraq to a town called Fallujah. Needless to say, he saw some ****. He was with 1/8/A if that means anything. He came back and I asked him about Me siging up with the Marines. He told me not to. pretty straight to the point eh? Never told me why, although I assumed it was because of the trigger time. I cant really take this type of information from a family member. In the end, they just dont want to see me get hurt. But I still think about what he said. But yea, If I could get some oppionions from both sides, That would be Awesome. Also, if anyone just happens to know where to find this, I would also like to know the Physical Requirments. Such as the maximum body weight for a 6'4 19 year old male. Sit ups, run times, pull ups. Like I said, I'm not looking for an easy way out....I just want to see where my goals should be se at around.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I presume your brother was with 1st Marine div, 8 Bat, Alpha Coy.. US Marines held themselves well in some pritty intense battles with Insurgents.... Good to hear your statement on attitude when looking to join up... thats a good start... I would think your brother whos a seasoned combat vet now, just doesnt want his little brother getting into harms way, which is nice and of course big brothers job to look after his little brother.. I have a big brother too...

However, it is your decision at the end of the day, and your brother will respect your choice.. Loosely speaking, if you can run 2 miles in 15 minutes, do 35 sit ups in a minute with a 30 sec break, then 35 press ups in a minute, you will be physically fit to start military training.. Army (or Marines) will do the rest. The actual specifics of weight profile, etc will be available from a recuiter.... good luck.... or ask Sgt Star if you dont wanna see one straight away....

You won't get any answers from me. Your attitude in your first post shows me I don't want you in my military getting someone killed. Exo1, I would consider it a personal favor if you would not hand feed these kids. They need to have the inititive or they don't. We have enough lazy people in the military right now, and they do cost real lives.

I do Apologize for giving you that Impression Tacky. I could care less if I saw combat. Id be happy mopping the floors. Anything to get away from this town that I live in. The Army could give a Second Shot at actually acomplishing something at life. I have put alot of time looking into the MOS 14T ; A Patriot Launching Station Enhanced Operator. I can relate to this job alot, as I Move Household Goods for a living. A Job not for the lazy at heart. I promise you Tacky, If I do join, I will strive to be the best Soldier that I can Be. I hope you read this, And comment back if possible. Insulting or not, I would like to hear what you have to say.

Priceless!
Unforrtunately, that boot nowadays is greased and they are sedated first, and receive an apology and flowers afterwards!
I'm sure Nightflyer can attest to this, as he saw relaxin' jackson for himself!
