Default couple of questions before i enlist

i just had a couple of questions that i was hoping someone out there could answer. first off, yes im new to the forum, but i have read alot of posts on this site before. i just wanted some answers is all. i have a meeting with a recruiter on tuesday morning.

i went to college this past year for one year, and now i cant go back because of financial aid. so now i will have at least a year off of school for me to burn up some time. i have always wanted to join the military since i was 14 or so and my father is an E-6 and has been in for 25 years, and has 2 tours in afghanistan, iraq and uzbeckastan, but never could since my weight was always about 220+. now im down to 170 and seeing that i cant go back to school, this is my perfect oportunity. my questions are these:

1. i took the asvab back in high school, which was 5 years ago. i have to take a new one. if i do not score well on it, will i be able to get the job that i want? the job i want is construction and masonry, 21W i believe. i have one year of 2 done at a state college that offers construction and masonry, and i held a 3.22 gpa throught the year. IF i do not that well on the asvab, would i be able to get that job. i did soem practice asvabs at army.com, and i got an 78 and a 75.

2. would i be able to enlist with a higher rank at all since i have one full year of college already done?

thank you for taking the time to read this and responding!

Welcome.

The ASVAB is not that hard man dont sweat it. Just give it your best. You are allready on the right track doing the online practice tests. You shouldnt have a problem getting that mos.

About the promotion for college. I dont remember the exact amount but You have to have a certain amount of college credit hours to be promoted up to the ranks of PFC. Bring That up to your recruiter He will know for sure.

Good luck with the enlistment.

thank you for the reply. yeah i know its not that difficult, i remember taking it back in highschool. that was 5 years ago, but i did pretty well on it then. my dad is just riding me hard about it cause he says i could get a "big bonus" if i do really well on it. i myself am not looking to enlist for bonuses or for better glorification, i just dont want to do horrible on it and not get the MOS im looking to get. thanks again

No kidding... when my hubby went in they said bonus jobs were things like "cook" and some other things... which to him were like being a cook... which he doesn't mind doing at home... just not for work. haha But hey, there is a job for everyone....
