asvab
I took the asvab 2 years ago and on the sheet it states I have an AFQT of 79. My question is what does that mean for me? what can I do and does that qualify me for anything? is it better to get a degree befor you enlist or during? I just moved into a house with my sister and she needs me for the other half of the rent....how do I know where id be stationed and do I have any choice? thats a start.......I have many questions but thats good for now. thanks -gunny

As far as I know, 79 is a very good score on the test, and you get a shot at most MOS's...
Like everything else, supply and demand will be a factor, but certainly puts you in a strong pole position to try for many differnt kind of jobs.. see what interests you, and pursue it.. that would be my starting strategy...
Good Luck..
Exo...
p.s. Maybe one day, you can really reach the rank of Gunny..

Short and long test. Three parts. The line score is 31 to get in. The score of 50 and above is a little better....it gets you what you want to a point. Piece of cake. This test helped me score an 81 and a GT score of 110. Good luck.....http://www.military.com/ASVAB Your GT score is General technical.Check it out.....The ASVAB subtests for determining the composites are: General Science (GS), Arithmetic Reasoning (AR), Word Knowledge (WK), Paragraph Comprehension (PC), Numerical Operations (NO), Coding Speed (CS), Auto and Shop Information (AS), Mathematics Knowledge (MK), Mechanical Comprehension (MC), Electronics Information (EI), and Sum of Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension, scaled (VE).
Current aptitude area composites used for MOS selection are as follows:
CL -Clerical-VE+AR+MK
CO -Combat-AR+CS+AS+MC
EL -Electronics-GS+AR+MK+EI
FA -Field Artillery-AR+CS+MK+MC
GM- General Maintenance-GS+AS+MK+EI
GT- General Technical-VE+AR
MM- Mechanical Maintenance-NO+AS+MC+EI
OF- Operators and Food-VE+NO+AS+MC
SC - Surveillance and Communications-VE+AR+AS+MC
ST- Skilled Technical-GS+VE+MK+MC
Good luck dude.

yeah i want to enlist in Wheeled vehicle mechanic, and it said you need a GM=90. how would you add up a practice asvab to see if i could qualify for that. i added everything up on my questions right, and its not even close. i added up the number possible right if i got them all correct and it came to 95, so thats impossible pretty much. anyone know how to add that? for mechanic, its graded as GS+AS+MK+EL. how do i figure that out!!!!
VERY CONFUSED!!!

Check out this article on usmilitary.about.com.
http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/joini.../asvababcs.htm
Unfortunately, there is no true way to determine these score results on a practice test. The computer tests these days use a "weighted" system whereby harder questions are worth more points, and easier questions are worth less.
Read the article at the link above. It explains the history of the test and how it is generally scored.
My suggesstion would be to just try and study the GS+AS+MK+EL sections as best you can. You should do fine.
Regards.
