Veterans Day.Nov 11th 2007..We stand proud and salute you all.....
Sunday is Veterans Day in the United States, Nov 11th, 2007 A day to remember and celebrate those who have served in our country's military. We like to take this time to salute all those who have served our country past and present and who continue to serve our country around the world with great honor.. pride..and respect. We will aways appreciate your loyalty, and selfless-service to our country.....

They call it Rememberance Sunday here. Poppy reefs are laid at all Memorials.
This one is around the corner from my house. Since this photo was taken the memorial has been restored.

"Debt of Honour Register"
This is the Commission's database listing the 1.7 million men and women of the Commonwealth forces who died during the two world wars and the 23,000 cemeteries, memorials and other locations worldwide where they are commemorated. The register can also be searched for details of the 67,000 Commonwealth civilians who died as a result of enemy action in the Second World War.

Thiepval memorial to the missing
On the Portland Stone piers are engraved the names of over 72,000 men who were lost ( "Lost" as in the body was not found ) in the Somme battles between July 1916 and March 1918, most of whom died in the first Battle of the Somme between 1 July and 4 November 1916. Consequently, when the remains of a soldier listed on the memorial are found and identified, he is given a funeral with full military honours and his remains buried in the closest cemetery to his location; his name is then removed from the memorial. This has resulted in numerous gaps in the lists of names.
and we're still finding them!

Happy Veterans Day to all past present and future... Ireland does not celebrate this day, which is quite ironic given my fellow countrymen have faught with distinction over the years with many foreign Armies Namely UK and US.... but noted also is French and Australian Armies.. Anyway, good wishes from Ireland...

Well if you lost any relatives in service of British army, check out the CWGC search engine they will be listed and it'll tell you where they are buried etc |
