Hi Army folks. Old school coming back.
I'm Prior Service trying to get back in now. This looked like a good place to tap some knowledge from those of you with more recent experience and updated info.
I was in the 82nd Airborne 2/505 PIR (85-89). I was 11B and a Sniper (best school ever).
I had all the regular schools too: Jungle Expert, Desert Warfare, Arctic Warfare, ALRC, PLDC,
Combat Lifesaver.
As a civilian I'm a Tree Climber and Rope Rigging Specialist, so I can still run a half marathon and I'm as strong and tough as I ever was, but at age 42 I don't know what kind of unit they will assign me too.
Anyone hear of any of us old prior service Airbornes getting assigned to an Airborne unit again ? Or do we just get whatever is next on the needs of the army list ? Thx All

Thanks for serving and wanting to serve us again. My husband just started his military career but is enjoying it.

Hi 82nd, welcome to the forum, hope youenjoy our crazy debates... whilst not US Army, I do know that they do like to keep you on your old MOS unles you have quals in civvi street that would suit another MOS they need... MSG Glenn was prior service Navy and went Army at 38... Id say if you PM him for info he could help, Tacky as always is the fountain of knowledge, and a good man to PM too....

Come on back Sniper! An early welcome home to you. It's funny how that old military can get into your blood. Everything after that is just pale by comparison. I'm pensioned off working armed security at a plant that makes sensitive military equipment & if I could go back in again I'd do so in a heartbeat! I'd even settle for the reserves or Guard. Of course that monthly retirement check is very nice.
My son's due to ETS in May after serving 4 1/4 years in the 3rd Ranger Batt. He loves it & I'm sure he'll miss it. He was offered SSG & a squad when he gets back from deployment & since he made SGT only last May I'd say he was on the fast track. He's pretty sure he's gonna get out, though.
Thanks for your service & your desire to serve again!
