Thumbs down Stephen King

I hope everyone heard the drivel the Mr. King has spouted off about. During a symposium on reading to a crowd of high school students he implied that if you couldn't read you'd end up in the Army & in Iraq. Obviously due to his gross ignorance he must think the Army is the same as it was in the 50's. Finish high school or end up in the Army. Or when the judge would sentence a young offender with jail or Army.

I was a big fan of his until now. I offered all of the books I have by him to a neighbor. After I told her what he said she didn't want them either. I couldn't bring myself to burn them as that's the wrong connotation but they now reside in my garbage cart.

I took great offense on what he said. I went into the Navy with a semester of college & in the Army just short of a bachelor of science & went for my master's while in.

My son was almost a straight A student in H.S. & is planning on further education using the Montgomery GI Bill when he gets out.

Do you suppose that either of us knew how to read??

My son, I , & thousands of others have fought for his right to speak but I don't think that a one of us for his right to utter a complete falsehood.

Shades of John Kerry 4 years ago.

The Army is not composed of illiterates & drop-outs.

Rant complete.

jrj100,

I know that's right. I am finshing my second year of college and working towards being a Warrant Officer...That said, Half the guys in my unit are educated. The soldier's who do not have a formal college education are just as smart if not more. I totally agree with you..These libs, have nothing better to do....Mr King should stick to writing horror...Because his opinion and his movies suck. By virtue of what he said proves he know's nothing about the Armed Forces. They all are afraid of the facts...That one day we're going to win the war on Global Terror..Without there support.

Dont get upset Glenn, its just second rate comments from a second rate novelist... its like saying Jessica Simpson has just slated accountants cos she cant count!!...

You hear that level of ingorance raise its head from time to time, and its always the same old jibe.. well it gets old, and the more these twits say it, the more ingorant they sound... I got my College Financial Services Education through the Army, and did mighty well at it too!!..

I think some of the Kings written stuff is awesome.
then again I was like 10 years old when i first got my hands to "IT".
might be why I'm not that much of a fan of Ronald.

King is a writer with so poor eye sight that he can barely write.. (if I recall correctly)

He also bases he's writings on the Dreams he has which many people can't do
really. I think thats grate.

Even if I like Mr. King's written material, It doesn't mean that I would let him
walk all over me and my beleafs.

I'd just take he's opinion and weight it against the rest of them.. but most of all my own.
