Question about basic
I ship for Benning on sept 25th. I'm already acing set on the Pt test. I have airborne after basic and I was wondering where is the option for ranger? correct me anywhere I'm wrong, but I heard ranger school is voluntary.. If so where would I be signing up for this? Same goes for SF..
thanks

Try to have your recruiter change your contract. To go to RIP & get in the 75th Ranger Regt. you'll need an Option 40 contract. Assuming you're going to Infantry OSUT your contract should be 11X/Abn/Option 40. You evidently have the Airborne Option 4.
The standard Army PT test doesn't cut it for the Rangers. The PT that you'll receive in OSUT & Airborne School is considered a joke by Rangers & SF.
If your recruiter is unwilling or unable to secure an Option 40 contract for you you still have a slight chance. Ranger recruiters will come to Infantry School seeking volunteers to fill empty slots in RIP. They like full classes. But don't count on it. It's always best to have it in writing in your contract.

I don't think i can get it on my contract because i don't have a diploma, only a GED. That's what the guy at meps told me. He told me i would have a slim chance of getting in only if there were open slots. I understand the PT is nothing compared to SF/Ranger, buy im the best physical shape i can possibly be in. If they come recruiting i would hope that they wouldrecognize that.

I don't have a diploma, which is why I couldn't get anything in my contract about Ranger, or that's what they told me at Meps. He said that its a slim chance for me to get one of the open slots if they are available. I'm in the best condition I can possibly be in, so I would hope that they would recognize me.

Both SF and Rangers go through a selection process. It's not just about being in shape physically, both trainings are very tough mentally and emotionally.

The Rangers require H.S or GED. I don't think they waiver at all. They can afford to pick who they want because option 40 RIP contracts are in great demand. I suggest you start working on your GED asap. Promotion opportunities are limited to those without H.S./GED. There's no way I would have made SFC & later MSG without at least some college let alone H.S.
One of my soldiers who was a SGT E5 was also a career man but didn't have a GED. He started working on it & then would quit. He was up for SSG but wouldn't get the stripes until he got his GED. He was notified that he would be allowed to serve 20 years & not one day longer. They were right. He had his retirement papers on the exact day he made 20. He could have gone for 22 with the possibility of getting another promotion & then he could have gone 25, etc. He was a good troop & was sorry to lose him.

I'll have my GED before the month is over. I'm already at E-2 and will be a E-3 going into Basic. I was reading up on ranger/SF and I noticed something
Army Ranger Qualifications
The Army Ranger contract requires candidates to meet the following basic standards:
Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien.
Have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
Be 18 or older.
Be able to pass the Army Physical Fitness Test (AFPT).
Be eligible for a Secret Level Security Clearance.
Score 50 or better on the ASVAB AFQT and have a GT (General Technical) score of 110 or higher.
Is this correct? I got a 109 on the GT part and a 70 on my asvab. I'm going to be really pissed if I'm not "qualified" to go ranger because of a single point.
\\Also is it possible to Be Sf and Ranger? Doubed Tabbed?

110 is the standard and yes they will consider you not qualified even for one point. It's one or the other.

How are you getting these ranks without a GED? as well as option4? I just enlisted with GED and was declined opt4 because i had GED? I thought you had to have college credits or recruit someone to attain rank like that?Im going in as E1?????
