Talking Suggestions

Good afternoon everyone!!

I am new here but I have been thinking about joining the military. I have seen the good things it has done for a lot of people and I want to be a part of that. But, I also want to better myself and my life. I am not a bad person I just have a lack of common sense and discipline with finances. Unforunately I am significantly overweight which is another discipline that I need to work with. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to better myself with dieting? I have been trying . I lost 30 lbs since Christmas but I keep losing confidence in myself and giving up. Has anybody here been through the same thing? If so I could really use some advice.

Thank you,

Nenny-Chan

Well the way i see it ....dont go for diets....95% of the time they dont work....not long term anyway..."Diet"surgests....losing the weight untill you meet your goal...and crash dieting is rubbish....most of the time people just pile it back on again....my sister did it..she lost the weight she wanted to then stoped...she ended up putting more back on after she had finished the diet....its about changing what you eat...and how you eat....and then sustain it.....what i would do is....

Eat proteins....(ie chicken..fish..steak...eggs....dont have them fryed though)
proteins should be the largest intake

Proteins bulid muscle.... witch is a fat burner in its self....the more muscle you have the better your body burns fat

Veggies.....you have to eat them....even if its only a few on the side of the plate...
they have massive amonts of vitamins and minerals.....key for staying healthy.....dont over cook them...try to eat them when they still have a crunch to them......if you over-cook them....you tent to lose most of the goodness

Now to carbohydrates....this is the tricky part....you need to find a balance...to many are bad....and too few can be just as bad....for any weight-loss plan....exercise is key...and to exercise well....you need carbs....but remember certan carbs....are storted as fat....and the body takes longer to burn them off....so that means more sweating....so dont take in to many
Fats....the body needs 90 grams of fat a day......but stay away from saturated fats

the issue of so called junk food...ie...pizza Maccy Ds.... crisps/chips....is an easy one....everything in moderation....if you stave yourself of these foods....thats when cravings kick in....and the mind makes them more inportant they they are....so if you have pizza...have 3 slices not 12

Nanny chan, I was sitting in a shopping centre mall yesterday in a restaurant eating dinner when I noticed this average sized teenage girl eating breakfast of scrambled egg and toast, she left half of it behind in an obvious attempt to look good for the boyz and not exercise at the same time.. Jrj is bang on with diet and combine that with exercise, and of course patience and repitition. Start with a fast walk around the block and so on until you are running 15 mins every two days and start with one press up and one sit up until you have reached 40 of each within a minute respectively. Its hard and painful work but if you have an end goal in mind, stick to that picture in your mind and haul *** when your body is wanting to lie on the sofa.... nobody but you can make this happen, so good luck in your choices and journey!!..

Exo...

Hang in there you can do it. I've been trying to lose weight as well. I have lost 25 pounds and still have a ways to go to get where I want to be. You didn't get overweight overnight and you won't take care of it overnight. Don't measure by the amount of weight you have lost only though. You also have to crack out a tape measurer and keep measuring body fat. It is going to take me a while to get down there so I'll be going through the same things you are until I reach my goal. If you would like to chat via instant messenger sometime I will do my best to help keep you motivated and checking in on you and you could do the same for me to keep each other one tack.

I use this site a motivation and you just have to remember if you mess up and eat significantly one night it isn't going to kill you in the long run, but you have to get right back on track the next day. My mental aspect on cutting back has changed significantly. I use to eat a ton. Let me know if you have any other particular questions.

I haven't been thru that situation but I'm sure you will get a lot of motivational support from people on this site no matter what your situation is. I've got a situation of my own and I've hotten nothing but positive responses since I joined this forum. Exo, JRJ, and MSG Glenn are the usual suspects when it comes to support. There are others. Listen to them and keep us posted on your progress.

Hi Nenny!

jrj1000 has some great information in his response to you and I agree with everything written in it.

My suggestions:

Remove the word diet from your vocabulary and exchange it to eating healthier.

3500 calories=1 pound

To loose one pound per week you have to eat less than 3500 calories per day.

First you have to figure out the 'average' number of calories that you are eating per day to 'maintain' the weight that you are at right now.

For a man BMR =66
For a woman BMR =655

your weight in pounds x 4.35=
your height in inches x 4.7=
your age in years x 4.7=

Add BMR plus total pounds plus total inches and subtract total age.

This is my info:

Woman BMR = 655
WT = 151x4.35=656.85
HT = 66x4.7=310.2
Age = 40x4.7=188

Formula....BMR+WT+HT-AGE

655+656.85+310.2-188=1434 calories per day to maintain 151 pounds.

I don't want to maintain 151 pounds, I am trying to loose 15 pounds so that means that I need to lower my 1400 calorie intake per day.

Does this make sense? You need to figure this out so you know where you stand with your calorie intake. Honestly, I hadn't done this formula in a long time and I am shocked that I am taking in that many calories!!

Men should not lower their calorie intake below 1800 and women should not lower their calorie intake below 1200 calories per day.

Processed foods are not your friend, and neither is fast food. One of my doctors that I worked with told me "If your grandmother/greatgrandmother didn't eat it, neither should you" ie: our grandparents didn't have microwavable meals, boxed processed foods etc. Fish and Chicken very good for you, and of course vegetables.

Put the regular dinner plates away and use the smaller sized plates and don't go after seconds.

And of course, no soda=10 pounds of weight gain per year.

Good Luck, and I hope I've helped you with some ideas.

Jen
