Regarding DUI and associated misdemeanors.
Hello.
I am currently a professional in the private sector and I find my line of work unsatisfying and devoid of any purpose. As a result I am considering joining the US Army in order to radically change my lifestyle and possibly see some far away places that I might not under other circumstances. Hell, I think Im just worried about falling into a stagnant rut with my current career and being stuck there for the rest of my life.
After browsing available MOS Ive noticed that some of my preferred MOSs ( 37F, 96B-97B, 33W) recquire a pristine background history. As a youth of 18 years (I am 30 at this time) I was arrested on my Prom weekend and charged with a DUI and convicted of Public Intoxication. Will these unfortunate instances prevent me from acquiring these MOSs? If so, are there any similar to those listed above that do not recquire such a sqeaky clean image?
Are these issues potentially more serious than I might think?
Thank you.

The best thing to do is talk with a recruiter, were you convicted of the the dui or was it continued without a finding? that will make a big difference. the public intox. you might be able to get a waiver.

Were those offenses classified as misdemeanors or felonies? That could make all the difference in the world.
The waiver system is changing almost daily. With that much time between when the offense happened & now I wouldn't think it'll matter much but then again I'm only talking off the top of my head.
A recruiter can tell you for sure. Getting those MOSs is totally reliant on your ability to get a Secret & above security clearance.

Thank you for the prompt responses.
If I recall correctly both offenses were considered misdemeanors. Between the two I paid roughly $1500 USD in fines and lost my Driver's License for a year. The Governer of NJ ALWAYS has to get his cut.
Thanks.

Like I say off the top of my head I don't think you'll have a problem but I know the Intelligence/Counterintelligence field does require a squeaky-clean record. Whether a DUI misdemeanor counts is something above my knowledge.
You shouldn't have a problem getting into the Army but it's the MOS selection that I'm unsure of.
Talk to a recruiter. And don't forget to come back here & let us know what happens. We like to keep abreast of changing policies & regs & we're truly interested in your status. After all you're willing to join the Army in a time of war so we can at least show interest in you progress.
If everything goes well make sure you get exactly what you want in writing. If it ain't in writing it ain't gonna happen more than likely.
Are you planning on enlisting with an Airborne Option?

You would need a waiver and the reason it would limit you in those fields you've listed is because they require a security clearance and morale waivers can cause an issue with that process. But you never know, talk to a recruiter and see where it takes you.
