Army Dog Handler
I was looking through the Army MOS list and I did not see "Dog Handler" as one of them. I was wondering if you had to be picked to be one. If not, I was also wondering if you could get a "Dog Handler" Contract.
Thanks for the Information,
FCM

You would sign up as an MP and then you request to go to K9 school. Just know there is often a very long wait list for the K9 identifier.

I assume that there is no way to get the K9 Handler school in your contract.

You can always ask the recruiter for it but since it's an additional skill identifier to an MOS, it might be harder to get. Also with the wait list as long as it is, it might not be doable. Ask, the worse answer you are gonna get is no.

Ask your Recruiter but I doubt it. Rangers have Dog Handlers. They use them all the time. During his last deployment they lost one to enemy fire. The were all sad about that of course but if it wouldn't have been for the dog then humans would have been killed. My son's good buddy was one (Infantry, not MP).
There's quite a bit of training involved so maybe it would be possible to ask for that in your reenlistment contract.
Let us know what your recruiter says about that.
