Most on here wouldnt have personall expirence with this weapon....Im just asking for peoples honest opinions about it and if they have false views on it because of a lot of bad press given to the first one
Type- Assault rifle
Place of origin- United Kingdom
Cartridge 5.56x45mm NATO
Action Gas-operated, rotating bolt
Rate of fire 610–775 rounds/min
Muzzle velocity 940 m/s (3,084 ft/s) (L85A1)
970 m/s (3,182.4 ft/s) (L86A1 LSW)
Effective range 400 meters
Maximum range ~500 meters
Feed system 30-round detachable STANAG magazine
Sights Telescopic SUSAT sight, aperture iron sights
In 2000, Heckler & Koch, at that time owned by Royal Ordnance, were contracted to upgrade the SA80 family of weapons. Two hundred thousand SA80s were re-manufactured at a cost of £400 each, producing the L85A2 variant. Changes focused primarily on improving reliability and include: a redesigned ****ing handle, modified bolt, extractor and a redesigned hammer assembly that produces a slight delay in the hammer’s operation in continuous fire mode, improving reliability and stability. On operations the rifle often is often fitted with a LLM01 Laser Light Module. The L85A2 can also mount the HK AG36 40 mm grenade launcher in a configuration similar to the M203 grenade launcher. The addition of the grenade launcher adds another 3.30 lb (1.49 kg) to the L85A2's weight.
An additional change has been made to the magazines. There are now two types of magazines, one for blanks (identified by yellow stripes on the magazine) and one for live ammunition. As blank rounds are shorter than live rounds, live rounds will not physically fit in to the blank magazine. Blank rounds will fit into the normal magazine, but their smaller size creates problems with jamming.
From 2007 an upgrade including the provision of ACOG sights, a new handguard incorporating Picatinny rails (with optional hand grip/bipod),and a new vortex style flash hider is being introduced for use by selected units.

How do you like the bullpup design? I've never shot a bullpup, but it seems pretty comfortable.

Its very smooth... hardly no kick at all..The only thing I would change is the position of the safety.
The option to fit a 203 grenade launcher attachment did the weapon a lot of favors |

Looks like a nice kit. I was talking to a tanker across the pond and he said the first ones were horrendous, but the A2 is much more reliable.
Now I have only one question, when is the MoD going to put some picatinny rails on that?

The A2's are the HK version. They overhauled the SA 80 and sorted it out. The A1 was a disaster!........Procurement can be a dicy affair when politicians hold the purse strings.

The inital model has several defects that made it operationally unreliable to dangerous... As far as I know, the upgraded model has fixed all of those kinks and its working the way it should.. the bullpump design is very similiar to the Steyr, which makes it a very suitable weapon for close quarter fighting in urben settings.
