Unfortunately due to the current economic circumstances (unemployment) creeps like the far right tend to gain more support in every country. So beware there too where ever you are!

Don't get too concerned with domestic politics in other countries. If the proverbial hits the fan, the proverbial hits the fan.

As Mr Texas stated, elements of the far right are bound to rear their ugly unwanted heads out of the woodworks during tense economical periods.

Not to say that the current financial crisis is in any way comparable to the collapse of the German economy during the 1920's and 30's.

Be more concerned about whether or not such elements develop in your own backyard.

I'm more worried about certain racist elements in my country (Australia). During our national holiday (January 26th) groups of drunken teens went to the street crying out against immigrants (possible related to extreme nationalism in relation to unemployment, or they were just drunk off their tits), all demanding bystanders salute and swear allegiance to the flags they were brandishing.

Statements such as "We grew her, you flew here", and "We're full, f__k off", were commonplace.

The media commented the Hitler would have felt right at home in that crowd.

wow, i never heard of that even happening, now i feel outta the loop lol...i live in the middle of nowhere so nothing really happens here, well a couple years ago there were some race riots but that was only because a nazi group wanted to have a parade here...yeah they didn't even show up but they definately caused some trouble.

Real people have genuine concerns about various matter on immigration and imported labour etc. Its very important that the Far right do not hijack those concerns and that the debate is an intelligent one not a biggoted one!........Seriously bad weather around the corner folks, so we all have to be mindful of the right wing opportunists but at the same time we also need to address an imbalance in EU employment laws from country to country. Its only fair if we are all playing by the same rules!

bearing that also in mind its also very important to remember the limitations of a country in contrast
to another. if we can keep thease in mind without going all statemodel with it.... we should be okay.
even with those few but loud nationalsocialist bunch. keep the overall education high and there shouldn't be too much problems with any extremists left, right or religious..

up here we do have to mold our politics with the surroundings as anywhere else.
just for an example the housing and roundmaintenence costs about 30-50% more just because
of the climate. we have to patchup our highways constantly or they would crumble down in
few years or even less. its not exactly helping that the population of our country, which habits
about 62.3km2 bigger piece of land than UK, is actually less than 1/10th of UK's..

so one would think that immigration would correct a lot of our problems. but its not that
simple with nation full of people who have basicly learned the hard way during hundreds of years
that you can't always trust a stranger.. so what do the naturally a bit xenophobic people of
the north do? well we are currently placing a grate deal of money for immigrant education programs... mostly torward the Finnish language courses and basics in our culture..

obviously we can't keep up with the numbers the bigger countries are absorbing immigrants.
we simply dont have the extra resources for it nor are we interested in rerouting them
from our domestic needs which are a bit more here in the north.

the saying "in country in a country's way" has rooted so deep in our thinking that even the
germans acknowledged it.. by saying that "if you go to finland you will be a "gast" in their house".
this is mostly true.

well... the all nazi stuff tends to lift its head when people are afraid.. and i am afraid that
it could be the financial chrisis which might spawn up this kind of behavior, with the
unfortunate happenings of the new millenium this far.. my country is in a lucky position
because we haven't been playing with the "air value" so much. just hard work and
that kind of stuff..
still the far right idealism is still seen again.. a bit more than
few years back. but thats just few people with misslead ideas coming from their teenage parents
who were spraying the same things in the walls in the 90's after the last grate depression.

unfortunately when theres some electricity in the air.. some people just are too enthusiastic of doing
the wrong thing instantly. mostly those who you see returning the exam paper with badly drawn
middle finger on it in five minutes from the start.

as i said.. high level of education with proper social standards and dynamic responses reaching to individual level is quite nice to have. keeps the unneeded nonsense in minimum.

I think this is the most valid point anyone could suggest. But will education ease the xenophobic 'fears', or are they too deeply implanted that even teachers and ministers feel the xenophobia also?

As you've said yourself, you've learned the hard way over hundreds of years not to trust all strangers.
