Default Tattoo Rule

So, i have a tattoo on my neck. Nothing offensive or racist or extremest. Now i was hearing the rule was that they draw an imaginary line from the earlobe down. Mine goes past that imaginary line by about an inch. My recruiter and i were looking at the regulations and it doesnt say anything about the imaginary line anymore.

I was asking about waivers and he was saying theres nothing he can do. Now, i've searched around on here and seen that people have gotten waivers. What can i do?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Let me find a picture and ill post it.

I've heard that the Army has loosened it's tattoo policy. Just how much I couldn't tell you. I never paid much attention to that.

If you Recruiter can't find the reg then I guess someone will have to search a little harder.

It's possible that your Recruiter is too busy to initiate any waivers but if he can't find any policy on tattoos then how can he start the waiver process? Some Recruiters just plain don't want to be bothered especially if they have enough "trouble free" recruits.

Please let us know if you hear of anything, pro or con.

Good luck.

Well the reg. states.

You can have a tattoo on the neck as long as its not extremest, racist, or gang related. Doesnt say anything about the back or side of the neck. But the last he heard was that it was an imaginary line on the side of your neck from the earlobe down.

Now it doesnt say anything about the line in the latest regs. He wasnt sure what to really do. He even explained that to his commanding officer. And his officer just said no. and hung up the phone on him.

If there is any recruiters on here, or anybody that can help, or anyone that has signed a waiver for a tat. on the SIDE of your neck, please let me know.

See another Recruiter at another Recruiting Station. That just doesn't sound right to me, hz.

Have you tried contacting a Recruiter on GoArmy.com?

As far as I know there are no Recruiters on site. There's one on another site that I'm on but that's been down for almost a month & I have no idea when it'll be up. The admin is deployed.

Yeah, im trying to get in contact with another recruiting station. I'm looking at some regs right now but they are from 2006. I can't seem to find any from 08 because they should have been updated March 0f 08.

And i've tried on goarmy.com but i've never recieved a phone call or anything. I will try again though.

I have several tattoos and was told when I was enlisted that they are generally ok as long as 1) They are above the cuff and below the collar 2) They are inoffensive (extremist, sexist, gang, etc.).

Maybe consider laser removal if yours would protrude above the collar of an ACU top.

I can contact Recruiting Command at Ft. Knox & put your name in for a referral but since you have already seen a Recruiter & if he has your name & SS number they'd probably send you the same one or at least one from the same Recruiting Station if it's the closest one to your home. The Army uses your social security number to track you from the first time you see a Recruiter until you're out of the Army. That wouldn't do you any good at all. In that case I can't do anything. The only way that it might work is if you give me a totally different phone number at a totally different location out of the area. In that case you'd probably get a different Recruiting Station to work out of. If you're in an area that's not near a big city you'd probably get the same station. Less populated areas are serviced by fewer Recruiting Stations.

If you think that'll work than shoot me a PM.

I head to meps wednesday guys. Thanks for the help though. As far as the tattoos, my tats on my hand really don't matter I guess in the army no more. My tat on the side of my neck should be fine according to my new recruiter, and his commanding officer doesn't think its a problem.

My son just enlisted & has several tats.
His recruiter said nothing on the face or hands.
Didn't mention the neck (my son doesn't have any there).
Did mention that forearm tattoos were okay.

Frankly, I'd be relieved if they banned him from joining the army because of his silly tattoos.
(OMG, I'm such an unpatriotic ****. Chalk it up to being a terrified mom. I'm sure I'll get with the program and be a proud army supporter in time. This is all quite new to me).
