Default Somali pirates

It's obvious that the situation has been out of control for several years now and some good deeds have been done to combat the phenomenon. the problem is international and so far there has been many multinational task forces to combat the Piracy at sea.

to those who dont know:
the harm comes within the suez canal shipping which effectively
passes the whole african continent. miles and miles of costs avoided and
more importantly, impact on nature reduced.

for example.. our little country has about 30 commercial shippings going through that
route very often.

it's a billion dollar route. and as it seems the pirates of from somalia have been
taken interest in it.. as it is not a new thing.. the frequensy of the attacks have increased
beyand the tolerable treshold. Especially since we are all suffering from the financial withdrawal.

my country is now thinking of sending our flagship Pohjanmaa in the area
HS article

how ever most of us here are in doubt because of the ROE..

I'm not sure if we will participate without full authority to shoot to kill.
there are better armed navys on the scene already..
(several nato countries + Sweden is going in with few corvettes and Russian navy is already there...)
(Norway is also sending a frigate)

so discuss what you will about this subject...

and let me know what you think about us participating with our ages old naval stuff. (because allies including USSR, made our navy retarded after WW2)

nah... the ship which would participate is Pohjanmaa

I'd saw off my left hand to see Spike go privateering for some Somali Pirate Bounty.

It appears that the EU has an agreement with Kenya to have suspected pirates tried in that country's courts. Perhaps the US should attempt to broker some such agreement as well... learn something from the GTMO situation.
