I've been seeing a lot on TV recently about Obama doing away with that and letting Gays and Lesbians serve openly. What are your opinions on it? Personally, I think if someone wants to risk their lives for our country, they should be allowed. I don't have any problems with them, so I don't think it would bother me serving next to one. What are yalls thoughts on on this?

If your going to risk your life for the land of the free, be free while doing so. Mmhm. This also brings up another slight contradiction- those underage. Risk your lives, but you cant still cant drink. Baloney!

Anyhow, I have heard of a few people in the military who have been open about their sexual orientation. I think its great. Long as the military as a whole supports this, I think there should be no problem. Just as they do with race and religion. Im sure there are many disputes between individuals about these topics, but I think also for the most part, everyone is respectful to them. *shrugs* Its a step in the right direction.

The idea is the same reason males and females aren't housed together: fraternization. If you remove that risk, there won't be an issue. If you put someone who is openly attracted to someone else, there are going to be problems.

I don't have anything against homosexuals, but the reasoning isn't anti-gay sentiment, its anti-fraternization.

You need to clearly understand that the military isn't a democracy. The rule is the rule and its there because it works, the end!
Personally I can't stand people who want to fix something that isn't broken!

Like Tex has said buzzy...rules are in place for a reason...in my opinion theres no need to change them.

Would it bother me serving next to a homosexual?...if they can do their job and their sexuality dosnt cause problems within the squad....then no I couldnt care less.

Whats the difference if someone is homosexual or not? No one has ever said we don't wan't homosexuals to serve their country...but what is the benefit of proclaiming it?

I have to agree with Sniper. A lot of people are homophobic and will take offense to someone of the same sex flirting with them.
