Can you come back after basic?
I was under the impression you can come back after basic in two ways. One was applying for the At home recruiter program (Whatever it's called) and two you had some 2 week leave or even a few days or something? My recruiter told me it doesn't matter if you're going to AIT or to OSUT you don't get to come home until after they are completed. Anyone know for sure?

You have to have all training completed first. You can apply for HTR and leave, but only a few get it. It depends on a lot of factors, but mostly how quickly your PCS wants you there. No guarentees.

You do not get leave between BCT and AIT. You have to apply for Hometown Recruiting and you have the option to take 2 weeks leave. About the two weeks leave, you most likely will not have been in long enough to earn the 14 days so that would put you in the hole as far as leave goes. You earn 2.5 days each month you are in the Army.

My son is graduating July 2nd and will be going to AIT at Aberdeen. He doesn't have to report until July 6th. I spoke to his Unit Leader at Aberdeen and asked if he has to report right after graduation or can he come home for a few days. His leader, as well as the head of personel both said that if his orders say July 6th, then he doesn't have to report until then as long as he's there before midnight. I can't wait!!!! Our family and friends have no clue he's coming home....big surprise for everyone!

Just make sure you have that cleared with the people at BCT so they know how to make the travel arrangements for your son.

My son sent me a form to fill out to request POV (?) transportation and I sent it back to him so they know he will be leaving with me after graduation. I spoke to a Lt. from his Commanding Officers office and she said once the soldier leaves Basic, they are under the orders of his next location which is his AIT at Aberdeen. I spoke to four different people from Aberdeen, the Director of Personel, his Unit Leader and two others and they all said if his orders are for July 6th, then it's ok for him to come home as long as he's at Aberdeen before midnight. They suggested he be there by 6:00 pm though because of processing.

I'm new to all of this so please bare with me if I don't make sense or ask a stupid question. LOL Is your husband Army or National Guard? I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not. When my son enlisted, he was given his orders then. When my son first got to Fort Jackson, I was given a graduation date that was after the date he was to report to AIT at Aberdeen. I sent an email to his Commanding Officer asking if his orders will change because of the graduation date and he said his orders remain the same and his graduation date is July 2nd. I later called his Commanding Officer's office and the Lt. told me that after they leave graduation, they are under the orders of their next location so I would have to check with them. I then went to the Aberdeen Proving Grounds website and found their phone book and started calling numbers that I thought would help with my questions. They were very helpful in finding the right person to talk to. I already knew my son's Unit so I was given their number and spoke to a gentleman who said if his orders say July 6th then that's when he reports. I asked him if my son would have to report before going home and he said that if I take my son there before the 6th, he has to stay and because of the holiday, he would basically be sitting around until the 7th when everyone gets back from the holiday vaca. I wanted to get confirmation from someone else and was given the number to the Director of Personal. She was a very pleasant woman who was very helpful. She said the same thing as the gentleman, if his orders say the 6th, that's when he reports as long as it's before midnight but recommends having him their around 6 for processing. She also threw in to promise her that I wouldn't turn him into a softy while he's home with us because he's worked so hard to be a tough Army Soldier. I've got the numbers written down but I have to look for them I'll get them to you in about 15 minutes or so. Let me know what you find out, I'm curious now! I'd hate to find out things have changed! It'll break my son's heart! He's so been looking forward to this! (Me too and the rest of the family!) I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!
