The Infantryman's must be ready to defend our country in peacetime and to capture, destroy and repel enemy ground forces during combat. The infantryman supervises, leads, or serves as a member of an infantry unit that employs individual or crew served weapons in support of offensive and defensive combat operations. Note: MOS 11H and MOS 11M have been merged into MOS 11B. In addition to the duties listed below, MOS 11B soldiers now also perform the duties of 11H and 11M.
Requirements:
- A minimum score of 90 in aptitude area CO
- A physical demands rating of very heavy (must be able to occasionally lift over 100 pounds with frequent or constant lifting in excess of 50 pounds)
- Color discrimination of red/green
- Correctable vision of 20/20 in one eye; 20/100 in other eye
- A minimum score of 90 in aptitude area CO
- Formal training (completion of MOS 11B course conducted under the auspices of the USA Infantry School) mandatory
Duties:
- Performs as a member of a fire team during drills and live combat
- Performs hand-to-hand combat
- Aids in the mobilization of vehicles, troops and weaponry
- Helps with reconnaissance mission
- Operates two-way radios and signal equipment
- Processes prisoners of war and captured documents
- Must learn to use, maintain and store various combat weaponry (rifles, machine guns, anti-tank mines, etc.)
Training:
Job training for Infantryman requires 13 weeks, three days of One Station Unit Training (OSUT) which includes Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training. The training will take place primarily in the field, with some classroom training. Infantry training never stops. As an infantryman you will constantly work to keep your skills sharp, remain in a constant state of readiness, and actively learning new skills.
