The Montgomery GI Bill – Selected Reserve is available to members of the Army Reserve and was enacted in 1985 to encourage membership in the Reserves. To be eligible, reservist must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) and have a six-year obligation to serve in the Army Reserve signed after June 30, 1985. No contribution is required.

The MGIB-SR program may be used for degree and certificate programs, flight training, apprenticeship/on-the-job training and correspondence courses. Remedial, deficiency, and refresher courses may be approved under certain circumstances. Your benefit entitlement ends 10 years from the date of your eligibility for the program, or on the day you leave the Reserves.

The annual cost of living increase in Educational Assistance Allowance for trainees under the Montgomery GI Bill - Selected Reserve (Ch. 1606 of Title 10, U.S.C.) has been approved. The following monthly rates are effective October 1, 2006.

Selected Reserve Montgomery GI Bill "Kicker" (MGIB-SRK)
Add $100, $200 or $350 a month as an Army Reserve Soldier to your standard MGIB-SR benefit for up to 36 months, depending on your selected Army Military Operational Specialty (MOS).
